GLEN ROCK, Pa. (February 17, 2009) – Adhesives Research, a leading developer and manufacturer of custom pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, specialty coatings, films and laminates, offers highly electrically conductive tapes, ARclad® 90038 and Flexshield® 8269, for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications in medical electronic products.
ARclad® 90038 is a 2.4-mil highly conductive, acrylic-based, pressure-sensitive EMI shielding tape that features a 1-ounce tin plated copper foil backing. Its shielding effectiveness ranges from 80dB to 95dB in the 1 GHz to 18 GHz frequency range. The tin-plated backing of this pressure-sensitive EMI shielding tape can be easily soldered and is resistant to corrosion and oxidation. It is supported by a polyester release liner that is easy to die-cut and apply.
Adhesives Research also offers Flexshield® 8269, a 4-mil, highly conductive pressure-sensitive EMI shielding tape that features a metallized fabric carrier. Shielding effectiveness is 80dB to 90dB in the 1 GHz to 18GHz frequency range. Flexshield® 8269 also offers flexibility and conformability, resistance to cracking from repeated flexing, and weight reduction advantages.
Both products are appropriate for use as die-cut components in medical electronics and instrumentation, including diagnostic meters for home and hospital use, hospital equipment, test instruments, and ground planes and interconnects for grounding applications.
Electromagnetic shielding is more important than ever with increasingly stricter regulations being placed on electromagnetic emissions by governing bodies, as well as by other public and private institutions and businesses. Hospitals and medical offices often use highly sensitive electronic equipment that could be susceptible to outside EMI/RFI if it is not properly monitored and limited. The rate of device failure due to electromagnetic radiation continues to increase proportionally with the growing number of consumer products containing highly sensitive electronic components. The increased frequencies of these smaller, faster-operating devices cause decreased wavelengths that are able to penetrate very small openings in the housings and containers of electronic devices. Adhesives Research has the experience and expertise to customize adhesive tape products for a range of EMI/RFI shielding requirements and applications.
Founded in 1961, Adhesives Research offers problem-solving capabilities and custom solutions in adhesive polymerization, mixing, adhesive coating and release liner design supported by extensive product development and analytical support. The company’s North American and Limerick, Ireland, facilities are certified to the updated ISO 9001:2000 standard.
Adhesives Research’s pressure-sensitive adhesives are used around the world in electronics, displays, wireless telecommunications, window fabrication, and the pulp and paper industry, as well as in medical diagnostics and devices, wound care, and pharmaceuticals/transdermals. Based in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, Adhesives Research also operates manufacturing facilities in Ireland and Colombia, has sales and marketing offices in Germany, Great Britain and Singapore, a representative office in Shanghai, China, and sales representation in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
