In 1961, Adhesives Research, Inc., was founded to supply specialty adhesive-coated materials not found anywhere else. Early projects concentrated on the graphic arts field and also included designing and building adhesive coating equipment.
From its humble beginnings in a converted garage, Adhesives Research (AR) grew steadily and pioneered work in high-performance, pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes. The company changed locations twice to accommodate its growing business – first in 1965 and then in 1974, when it moved to its present location in Glen Rock, PA. The company’s corporate campus spans over 100 acres, and after numerous expansions, houses almost 220,000 square feet of space where more than 400 associates are employed.
AR designs, develops and manufactures one-of-a-kind customized components for international Fortune 1000 companies who are leaders in the pharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostic, industrial, electronics, pulp and paper, engineered tapes and brand protection markets and who need a critical component for their specific application.
Adhesives Research was the first North American company in its industry to be certified for the ISO 9001 and ANSI/ASQC Q9001-1994 quality assurance standards and is certified to ISO 9001:2000 standards.
Adhesives Research, Inc., is organized into three groups – Adhesives Research, which encompasses the company’s Medical, Pharmaceutical, Electronics, Engineered Tapes and Splicing divisions; ARx, LLC, dedicated to developing and manufacturing innovative pharmaceutical products; and ARmark Authentication Technologies, LLC, focusing on brand protection in the form of covert markers to prevent counterfeiting.
Adhesives Research is a well-recognized global, independent developer and manufacturer of custom high-performance specialty films, pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs), tapes, coatings, films and laminates in five key markets:
– medical devices and diagnostics, wound care and molecular technology
Electronics – disk drives, handheld devices, semiconductors, displays, conductive technologies and general electronics assembly
Engineered Tapes – window fabrication, automotive, technical textiles and specialty fabrics, and general industrial bonding and assembly
Pharmaceutical – unique components for transdermal, oral and topical drug delivery
Splicing – repulpable and non-repulpable splicing tapes for the pulp and paper industry
ARx, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AR, is a client-focused, custom developer and supplier of high-quality drug and biopharmaceutical delivery materials and technologies for the pharmaceutical industry.
ARmark Authentication Technologies, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AR, focuses on brand protection in the form of covert markers that can contain multiple layers of information, including text, in a particle smaller than the diameter of a human hair. These microscopic markers can be incorporated into packaging, food, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, apparel, electronics, currency and bonds and can be delivered with inks, papers, adhesives or films. These markers are integrated into a customer’s product to help manage brand theft, trademark infringement, piracy, counterfeiting, and forgery.
Based in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, Adhesives Research also operates manufacturing facilities in Ireland and Colombia, has sales and marketing offices in Germany, Great Britain and Singapore, a representative office in Shanghai, China, and sales representation in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
Additionally, Adhesives Research operates two technical centers for the design and development of custom adhesives, coatings and film components; one in Glen Rock, PA, and the other in Limerick, Ireland.
