Flatback Tapes
High-performance paper-backed tapes engineered for secure, durable splices in paper and board converting operations.
Reliable performance for continuous converting operations
At Adhesives Research, we design splicing solutions that keep converting lines running efficiently and consistently. Our ARclad® Flatback Splicing Tapes are built to provide secure, stable adhesion on paper and board substrates during the most demanding processing conditions. Whether used in coating, laminating, printing, or packaging lines, these tapes maintain splice integrity and process flow—reducing unplanned downtime and improving throughput.
Applications for ARclad® Flatback Splicing Tapes include:
Product Overview
Our flatback tapes combine a durable paper backing with a high-tack, rubber-based pressure-sensitive adhesive system. This construction delivers immediate adhesion on contact and strong holding power under heat, tension, and speed. The backing resists tearing and maintains dimensional stability through dryers and ovens, while the adhesive layer sustains bond strength even as substrates expand or contract during temperature changes.
We formulate ARclad® tapes to accommodate various process demands—from high-speed unwind applications to manual splicing at the core. The hand-tearable construction simplifies operator handling, enabling fast application without specialized tools. Each tape is available with a visible colored backing for easy identification during quality checks, supporting consistent performance across shifts and facilities.
Custom support built around your process
Every converting operation has unique substrates, process temperatures, and splice configurations. That’s why we work closely with process engineers and operators to identify the most effective tape for each line. Our technical teams collaborate directly with customers to test adhesion, evaluate heat resistance, and fine-tune splice methods to fit production goals.
We also provide guidance on optimal surface preparation, pressure application, and storage conditions to ensure long-term product stability. When off-the-shelf solutions do not meet exact process requirements, we can modify adhesive formulations or backing characteristics to deliver the right balance of tack, shear strength, and release behavior.
Implementation and Technical Guidance
For best performance, surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust or oil. Apply firm, even pressure across the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. Store at approximately 70°F in a cool, dry environment to maintain product integrity. Our technical representatives can assist with trials, training, and splice validation to confirm performance under your exact line conditions.
